Benoît CHAFFRINGEON

Web and new media production director of CRI, Montreal, Canada

Tell us about your business.

CRI is a 360° communication agency founded in 1991. In the beginning, CRI specialized in graphic design and management of print projects. The agency quickly developed all the competencies required to accommodate its clients: advertising, promotion, distribution marketing, design, branding, event management and the development of an entity specially dedicated to Web (Internet and interactive media).  Within the web production team, developers and project managers produced our clients’ projects (Desjardins, Michelin, groupe Olymel) ranging from brand sites to real experienced/professional sites (internal management tools).

Where does testing rank (Quality Assurance/QA) in your management of the project?

At CRI, quality assurance is an integral part of our production process: the project managers run functional tests and the developers do peer-to-peer tests for the technical aspects (peer-to-peer, test each other’s projects). All the digital projects are tested but we don’t necessarily have enough equipment or there are too many cases of possible tests for us to have maximum test coverage.  Lastly, it's not the core job of our teams and it's difficult enough to test their own developments themselves.

How do you work with StarDust? What is the return on your customer’s experience?

When we met Frederique Rostaing, Account Manager at StarDust, in November 2014, we were deep in thought about the possibility of sub-contracting Quality Assurance. After a presentation of StarDust’s offer, we decided to work together on some projects in Agile to better measure the benefits of outsourcing. The establishment of the StarDust test phases in our workflow is done in a very fluid manner; StartDust showed great flexibility and responsiveness. Following this successful experience, we decided to integrate the StarDust test phases in our global project management with the objective of achieving 80 to 90% outsourcing of the StarDust QA. Test phase sub-contracting relieves the teams of developers and project managers and our clients appreciate the fact that Quality Assurance is carried out by specialists.
