The Quick Guide to Crowdtesting

The Quick Guide to Crowdtesting

In this quick guide to crowdtesting, you'll learn what crowdtesting is, the benefits that crowdtesting can offer to your QA phases, and how to manage campaigns that employ the crowd.

Today, the need to develop digital services as well as release new updates faster than ever before is resulting in greater challenges for the development team. The same can be said for testing teams, which play a crucial role in the production of any app, website, SaaS, etc.

Nonetheless, crowdtesting, an innovative testing resource, is helping organizations to meet their testing needs.

What is crowdtesting?

Crowdtesting is an innovative QA solution that can help brands ensure their apps, websites, and other digital services function perfectly. With crowdtesting, QA tests are executed by a community of professional, freelance testers located all over the world. At StarDust CTG, our community of crowdtesters, We Are Testers, has over 2,000 QA professionals located in 60 different countries covering 45 languages.

Why use crowdtesting?

Crowdtesting enables brands to execute functional test cases using professional testers located in relevant markets. In addition, crowdtesting provides numerous benefits that can bring additional value to QA campaigns as well as ensure projects stay on schedule.

Just like the table on Thanksgiving, crowdtesting has many QA possibilities.

What are the benefits of crowdtesting?

1) Flexibility

The first benefit of crowdtesting is flexibility. Thanks to a community of thousands of professional, freelance testers from around the world who are available 24/7, tests can be launched and executed at any time. A community of testers will also provide brands with the profiles needed to execute specific test cases that may require more technical skills or experience.

2) Diversity

The second benefit is diversity. With over 2,000 testers in over 60 countries speaking 45 different languages, crowdtesting can be used to test multilingual apps and websites. The ability to use testers from specific markets or regions can also help brands to identity more subtle bugs or language-based issues that reduce conversion rates, confuse customers, or may be culturally offensive.

Geolocation

The third benefit of crowdtesting is the ability to execute geolocation test cases. With crowdtesters located around the world, it is much easier to test functions that rely on geolocation. Testing in specific markets can also reveal any issues an app or website may have due to different Internet or cellular network speeds.

Resources

The fourth benefit of crowdtesting is resources. The fragmentation of the smartphone market makes it difficult for developers to build apps and websites that function perfectly across every configuration. With crowdtesting, brands can find testers who posses the testing configurations most appropriate for their test in terms of mobile models, screen sizes, OS versions and browsers combinations.

How to manage a crowdtesting campaign?

To effectively manage a crowdtesting campaign, StarDust assembles a team comprised of our QA project managers, the crowdtesting manager and our community of crowdtesters.

First, the project manager works hand in hand with the client to analyze and understand their needs and goals of the test campaign. This allows the project manager to know, for example, which devices are needed to match those used by the client’s target audience. Second, the project manager prepares the test campaign's strategy, which is aligned with the needs of the client and goals of the test.

Third, the crowd manager selects testers whose skills, experience, devices, and other characteristics meet the requirements of the campaign. With the fourth step, the entire team works together to execute the testing campaign. Here is where the selected crowdtesters test the digital product in accordance with the established testing strategy. They also log any bugs or flaws uncovered during the campaign.

During the fifth step, the crowd manager validates the test results by verifying any detected bugs and flaws. For the last step, the project manager prepares and shares with the client the final bug report, results of the test campaign, and recommendations for improving the digital product. This feedback helps the client to remove any bugs or flaws allowing them to improve the quality and performance of their product.

At StarDust CTG, we have tested chatbots, software solutions, websites, etc., for a variety of clients such as Thalys, Avira, and more using our community of testers, We Are Testers.  With nearly 5,000 testers in over 60 countries speaking 45 different languages, We Are Testers can provide the test coverage that your organization needs.
